Follow ur agent that you appointed. It is up to the maid really. Some are willing to forego off days with compensation of $$, some will insist on day off.
The decision is yours.

I forget to tell you, filipino maid you need to phone interview her and double check if she willing $$ for day off. Some would agree to filipino agent no day off, but come to employer house, then tell you she want day off. The one you chose you need to call her on another time, pretending to be agent. Ask "open" questions on all areas.
I once tele-interviewed a very good "face feature" filipino woman, she answered the phone and she shouted "HALO!" problably thought her family members called or just then her kids made her angry??
The other one I tele-interview her and sound promising, but when come to off day, she insisted. Although she sounded very nice, but I have to let go coz I need someone to help me look after kidz.
Then the other one, I end the interview with the several prompts "Do u have any other question you wish to ask me?" Then she ask which part of Singapore I stay? Told me her sister here also. zhai zhai she got contacts here.

It's better to give at least a day off a month to maids. I know some employers whose maids had no day off, turned "ku ku" or crazy.... began talking to themselves.... They are not robots, need someone to talk to as well to "let out", instead of being boxed in the house for years. I think it's more healthy for them psychologically........... just my opinion.

My opinion thru experience is that once they got off days, trouble will follow. My ex maid with me for 3+ years, after renew contract ask me for off days. Then horror begin, stole money, handphone, sneak out everyday. Meet men while pretending to walk the dog, finally even went for abortion. Total transformation from good worker to monster. No more off days for my maids take it or leave it.

when i phone interview my current maid she told me can look after bb, can no off day, can do housework. but come 1st dy ask me for off dy, when i told her stated in agreement already she asked me for higher salary! somemore can say my bb very naughty when she didnt even look after him. housework all i teach her i ok, but she dont appreciate can tell me she dont want to look after bb want to do housework only!! when i tell her its her job she say want to change employer.
so my experience tells me even if interview and agreed on terms also no use, they will do all their trick when they get here. my agent can tell me its common, no big deal!

yeah, i agree with u, unluckymum. Videos, phone interview, agent's recommendations, etc...is of minimal help. Does not eliminate common problems still. Getting a "suitable" one is still highly based on luck and constant "managing" them in our household till they are "right" for us. And it is more stressful to our daily living...yet we dont have a choice.
